three fish

Saturday evening we paid a visit to my sisters house, to help her put up a swingset for her kids. This was our first visit since we returned from Mexico, and we discovered among the other changes they had gotten a fish tank. The kids were enchanted by it. So we started musing about the possiblity of getting one of our own. Lucky for us my brother's pet salamander Moxie, perhaps the longest living salamander ever, died a few months ago leaving a perfectly good aquarium sitting in the attic. On Monday we drug the aquarium down from the attic, cleaned it out, and made sure it would hold water. Then we spent the next several hours debating about where to put the darn thing, when every square inch is occuppied every square inch counts. I finally decided to move some stacks of books on a cabinet, which were only gathering dust anyway, temporarily to a corner on the floor (too many books not enough book shelves). Then we went and spent alot of money at the pet store (at least the fish food is cheap). And now we are officially pet owners for the first time ever. Happily the kids are just as enchanted with our fish tank as they were with my sisters. In fact, Lucas decided to sleep on the couch so he could fall asleep while watching his fish.
